My Experience Buying 1,000 Solo Ad Clicks: What Worked, What Didn’t, and My Latest Commission

My Experience Buying 1,000 Solo Ad Clicks: What Worked, What Didn’t, and My Latest Commission

When you’re building an affiliate marketing business, one of the biggest challenges is finding advertising that produces actual results.

I’ve been involved in marketing since 1989, and over the years, I’ve used many different advertising methods, including mailing lists, email marketing, traffic exchanges, and solo advertisements.

Recently, I decided to invest in solo advertising through Udimi to promote my ClickBank-related business.

I purchased two separate advertising campaigns totaling approximately 1,000 clicks.

The results were interesting, disappointing, and educational.

And just recently, I received another ClickBank commission!

Today, I want to share what happened, what I learned, and why I’m taking a more careful approach to paid advertising.

My First 500-Click Campaign: Three Sales!

My first Udimi campaign produced encouraging results.

I purchased approximately 500 clicks and received more than 100 leads.

Even better, the campaign generated three sales.

One of those sales earned me approximately $133 in commission.

Naturally, I was pleased.

After spending money on advertising, it was encouraging to see people responding to my offer.

But I also understood that one successful campaign doesn’t necessarily mean the next one will produce the same results.

That became very clear when I purchased my second campaign.

My Second 500-Click Campaign: No Sales!

After the encouraging results from my first campaign, I purchased approximately another 500 clicks.

This time, the outcome was completely different.

Instead of receiving more than 100 leads, I received only a handful.

And the number of sales?

Zero.

I was disappointed.

Both campaigns involved approximately 500 purchased clicks, but the results were dramatically different.

That experience reminded me that advertising performance can vary considerably from one campaign to another.

It also raised some important questions.

Were the visitors genuinely interested in the offer?

Did the advertisements attract the right audience?

Was there a problem with the landing page or tracking?

Or were there other differences between the two campaigns?

Without reliable tracking information, I couldn’t answer every question confidently.

Comparing My Two Advertising Campaigns

Here is a summary of my reported results:

Campaign Purchased Clicks Leads Sales
First Udimi campaign Approximately 500 More than 100 3
Second Udimi campaign Approximately 500 A handful 0
Total Approximately 1,000 More than 100 3

These figures reflect the results I associated with the two campaigns at the time.

They do not include a newer ClickBank commission whose original traffic source I have not yet confirmed.

Another ClickBank Commission Arrived!

Here is the encouraging news.

Recently, I received another ClickBank commission.

That brings my reported ClickBank sales and commissions from this recent effort to four transactions, including the three sales I previously associated with my first solo advertising campaign.

However, there is something important I want to explain.

I cannot currently identify which advertising source generated this latest commission.

I’m promoting ClickBank Profit Club as my current ClickBank offer, but I also use several different methods to attract visitors and subscribers.

Some people may visit an offer immediately after seeing an advertisement.

Others may subscribe to an email list, read additional information, and make a purchasing decision later.

That is one reason I want to improve how I track my marketing results.

I’m encouraged by the additional commission, but I don’t want to claim that a particular advertisement generated the sale without evidence.

Why Tracking Affiliate Sales Matters

One of the most valuable things an affiliate marketer can do is understand where customers are coming from.

If I spend money on an advertising campaign, I want to know whether that campaign is producing leads, customers, and enough commissions to justify the expense.

For example, suppose I spend $150 on an advertisement.

If it generates $100 in commissions, I have not recovered the advertising cost.

If it generates $300 in commissions, the result is more encouraging, although I still need to consider other expenses, refunds, and adjustments.

The important point is that making a sale and making a profit are not necessarily the same thing.

I want to become more disciplined about recording my advertising expenses, leads, sales, and commissions.

My AWeber Email Follow-Up System

Another important part of my online business is email marketing.

I use AWeber to maintain contact with people who request information.

Recently, I began using a longer automated email follow-up sequence associated with my ClickBank Profit Club promotion.

My hope is that subscribers will have more opportunities to learn about the program before deciding whether it is right for them.

But I also understand that automation does not guarantee sales.

Email messages need to provide useful information and maintain the trust of subscribers.

I want to keep improving that process.

Why I’m Taking a Break From Purchasing More Udimi Traffic

After my second campaign produced no sales and very few leads, I decided to pause additional Udimi purchases.

That doesn’t mean I believe solo advertising cannot work.

My first campaign produced three sales.

However, I want to better understand the differences between my campaigns before spending more money.

For now, I’m concentrating on advertising resources I already use and know well.

These include traffic exchanges and email advertising platforms such as TrafficAdBar, LeadsLeap, ListJojo, and other services I’ve used over the years.

My plan is to test carefully, track results, and avoid purchasing traffic simply because an advertisement promises a large number of visitors.

Five Lessons From My 1,000-Click Experience

1. Never Judge an Advertisement by Clicks Alone

Clicks are useful, but they don’t pay the bills.

I need to know whether visitors are interested enough to subscribe, learn more, or purchase.

2. Compare Leads and Sales Separately

A campaign might generate subscribers without producing immediate sales.

Those leads may still be valuable if they genuinely want the information and continue engaging with my emails.

But I should not assume every subscriber will eventually become a customer.

3. Track Every Advertising Expense

I want to know exactly what each campaign costs.

That will help me calculate whether my advertising is profitable instead of focusing only on the number of commissions received.

4. Give Email Follow-Up Time to Work

Not everyone makes a purchasing decision immediately.

Helpful follow-up messages can give interested subscribers more information.

However, I also need to respect subscribers’ choices and avoid sending excessive promotions.

5. Don’t Give Up After One Disappointing Campaign

My first campaign produced three sales.

My second produced none.

And now I’ve received another ClickBank commission whose original source is still unclear.

These experiences remind me that affiliate marketing results can vary.

The answer isn’t necessarily to spend more money.

Sometimes the better approach is to review the information available, improve the system, and make more careful decisions.

What I Plan to Do Next

Going forward, I’m concentrating on three important activities.

First, I want to continue publishing useful information on SpareTimeProfit.com.

Second, I want to improve my email marketing and subscriber experience.

Third, I want to use better tracking so I can understand which advertising sources are actually helping my business.

I also plan to continue sharing my results, including the disappointments.

I believe readers deserve to hear both sides of the affiliate marketing experience.

Final Thoughts: Small Progress Is Still Progress

I started sharing my ClickBank journey because I wanted to document what I was learning and help other beginners avoid common mistakes.

My recent advertising experiences have taught me several important lessons.

Traffic quality matters.

Email follow-up matters.

Choosing the right offer matters.

And tracking expenses and commissions matters.

I’m pleased to report another ClickBank commission, but I’m not going to pretend that every part of my marketing system is working perfectly.

I’m still learning, testing, and making improvements.

As a retiree, my goal is to build an online business that I can manage in my spare time while enjoying life.

I don’t need another full-time job.

I want a practical business that fits my lifestyle.

My advice to beginners: Start carefully, keep learning, and measure your results before investing more money.

Thank you for following my Spare Time Profit journey.
