Recently, I participated in the ClickBank Profit Challenge led by John Thornhill.
Now that the three-day live event is behind us, I want to share some thoughts about what I’ve learned, what I’ve experienced with paid advertising, and where I plan to take my online business next.
I’m not writing this as someone who has everything figured out.
I’m writing as someone who has spent many years involved in marketing and continues to learn from both successes and disappointments.
My ClickBank Journey Is About More Than One Challenge
One reason I became interested in the ClickBank Profit Club was the opportunity to learn more about building an affiliate marketing business using a structured system.
The live challenge focused on three important areas: deployment, traffic, and automation.
These are essential parts of building an online affiliate business.
But attending a training event and making actual sales are two very different things.
The real test begins when you start putting what you’ve learned into practice.
What My Solo Ad Campaigns Taught Me
Let me share a real experience.
I purchased two separate batches of approximately 500 solo ad clicks.
My first campaign generated more than 100 leads and three sales, including one commission of approximately $133.
Naturally, I was encouraged.
I thought perhaps I was finally beginning to develop some momentum.
Then came my second campaign.
Another approximately 500 clicks.
This time, I received only a handful of leads and no sales.
That was disappointing, especially after the results of my first campaign.
But it reminded me of something important:
Traffic alone does not guarantee subscribers, and subscribers do not guarantee sales.
The quality of the traffic, the offer, the landing page, and the follow-up process all matter.
I also realized that I needed to examine my tracking more carefully before spending additional money.
Why I Decided to Slow Down on Paid Solo Ads
After reviewing my results, I decided to take a break from buying additional Udimi traffic.
That doesn’t mean I believe solo ads never work.
My first campaign produced sales.
However, I don’t want to continue spending money without understanding why one campaign performed so differently from another.
For now, I plan to concentrate more on advertising resources I already know, including traffic exchanges and email advertising platforms.
I’ve used some of these services for many years.
My goal is to test carefully, monitor results, and avoid spending money simply because a website promises large amounts of traffic.
Building My Email List Is Still Important
One of my ongoing projects is developing a useful email subscriber list.
I use AWeber for email marketing, and I recently began working with a longer automated follow-up sequence.
I believe email marketing gives me an opportunity to stay in contact with interested subscribers rather than depending entirely on one advertisement to produce a sale.
However, I also recognize that simply collecting email addresses is not enough.
Subscribers need helpful information, relevant offers, and a reason to continue opening my messages.
That’s something I intend to keep improving.
Why I’m Continuing With ClickBank for Beginners
One thing I don’t want to do is turn Spare Time Profit into a website filled with nothing but affiliate advertisements.
I want this blog to be a place where readers can learn from my experiences.
That means discussing what works, what doesn’t work, what I’m testing, and what I would do differently.
It also means being willing to discuss mistakes.
I believe beginners deserve realistic information about affiliate marketing.
There are opportunities to earn commissions online, but results are never guaranteed.
It takes effort, testing, patience, and a willingness to learn.
My Next Steps
Here is what I intend to focus on as I continue building Spare Time Profit:
- Publish more educational articles about ClickBank and affiliate marketing.
- Continue improving my email follow-up and subscriber experience.
- Test advertising sources more carefully before investing additional money.
- Review affiliate products based on their usefulness, quality, and suitability for my readers.
- Expand into other topics that interest me, including retirement, travel, and emergency preparedness.
I also want to improve how visitors subscribe to my blog newsletter.
That project has presented a few technical challenges, but I intend to return to it after catching up on my blog content.
Final Thoughts
If you’re new to ClickBank or affiliate marketing, I hope you’ll follow along as I continue sharing my journey.
I have experienced both encouraging results and disappointing campaigns.
But I believe there is value in learning from both.
My goal isn’t to promise overnight success.
My goal is to build a practical online business that I can manage in my spare time while enjoying retirement.
And if something I learn helps another beginner avoid an expensive mistake, then sharing my experience will have been worthwhile.
Thank you for visiting Spare Time Profit.
Keep learning, keep testing, and never spend more on advertising than you can comfortably afford to lose.
